Ask Questions and Comfort Your Child

When your child arrives home after her first day of school, she will have many exciting things to tell you about what she learned, who she met and what she likes about her class.

Ask your child to draw one or more things she did at school that day. Discuss with her what made specific activities special. Ask questions, such as "What did you learn?" or "Did you make new friends?"

Talk with her about her classroom, teacher, friends and other activities. Make this a part of her bedtime routine during the school year and maintain the same bedtime routine each night.

Review your child's schedule for the next school day and help your child pack her backpack and pick out clothes for the next day.

Asking questions about your child's daily activities will provide further learning experiences and allow her to express what ideas she is most interested in at school.
